The EVCP Communications team manages an executive portfolio of communications for EVCP Lucey and is a lead campus collaborator.
What we do
This team manages various communications channels for EVCP Catherine R. Lucey, including newsletters, announcements, websites, correspondence, and requests for signature.
They maintain strong collaborations with the Office of the Chancellor, Office of Communications, Office of Diversity and Outreach, and University Development and Alumni Relations, as well as communicators throughout UCSF and within the various EVCP units.

Team
Brenda Gee, Administrative Director, Communications, Policy, and Records
Brenda is a campus staff leader with expertise in strategic communication and information workflows in both the Offices of the Chancellor and EVCP. Over the past three decades, she has worked in the School of Nursing, Office of Student Affairs, Office of Admission and Registrar, and Graduate Division.
Her communications role within the EVCP organization includes:
- managing communications and executive correspondence for the Chancellor and EVCP
- developing communication protocols
Leslie Kleinberg, Communications Specialist
Leslie has over two decades of experience managing web content, writing, and editing. She came to the EVCP Office communications team from the UCSF Library, where she worked on various websites, publicity, and project management for technical projects. She was a member of the advisory group for the UCSF Drupal website template, now UCSF Site Builder.
Her role includes:
- editorial review and coordination of correspondence and signature items for the EVCP and Chancellor
- management of several websites including the Office of the EVCP and Campus Administrative Policies
Shelley Wong, MFA, Communications Specialist
Shelley has a background in communications, education, publishing, and creative writing. With over a decade of UCSF experience, her previous roles include serving as a communications manager in the School of Medicine Dean’s Office, coordinator of the Communicators Network, and editor of Research Resource, the Office of Research newsletter. Her health sciences writing career began when she was a writer and Continuing Medical Education development manager for a medical communications company in New York City. She holds a master of fine arts degree in creative writing from the Ohio State University and a bachelor of arts in English literature from UC Berkeley. She is the author of As She Appears, which was longlisted for the 2022 National Book Award for poetry and won a 2023 Lambda Literary Award.
Her role includes:
- writing, editing, and coordination for EVCP communications and correspondence; support for Office of EVCP website
- communications planning for EVCP projects
- content management for the quarterly Program for Interprofessional Practice and Education (PIPE) newsletter; PIPE website manager
