Advisory for Non-Essential Travel within the Middle East
Important guidance and resources regarding non-essential travel within the Middle East
Dear UCSF Community,
Due to escalating security risks in the Middle East, all non-essential travel to the region should be avoided for the foreseeable future. Any travel deemed essential must be thoroughly evaluated prior to departure. Risk Advisory and Insurance Services is available to support the evaluation of travel and provide guidance to travelers.
The U.S. Department of State has issued a Worldwide Caution Security alert, explaining that Americans worldwide, and especially in the Middle East, should follow the guidance in the latest security alerts issued by the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate. Travelers may experience travel disruptions due to periodic airspace closures. The Department of State advises Americans worldwide to exercise increased caution.
All travelers should register their travel in UC Away and at step.state.gov to receive the latest security alerts and follow the “U.S. Department of State - Security Updates for U.S. Citizens” channel on WhatsApp. When planning travel, carefully review current Travel Advisories, country information, and any recent alerts at travel.state.gov/en/international-travel.html.
